The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 experienced CNC Machinists to join an established company based in Coldstream, Berwickshire with a full order book. Universal Fibre Optics was established in 1991 and is expanding. UFO has invested in excess of 600K in new machinery and other areas. Universal Fibre Optics is also happy to invest training people.

As well as the 2 full time positions above, we also have the possibilty of a part time position and a fourth position for a candidate that can program Star Sub Spindle machines.

The company's capabilities allow us to supply systems into numerous sectors and have a well-recognised position in the market supplying systems to prestigious clients internationally.

Requirements:

  • Trained CNC Turning is essential.
  • Skilled Setter and Programmer using Fanuc controls on Colchester and Doosan lathes.
  • Machining bespoke products as well as products for the assembly line.
  • Knowledge of CNC Cadcam would be advantageous.
  • Interpret Engineering drawings manufacturing components within set tolerances.
  • Ensure all company policies surrounding, health & safety, quality requirements and housekeeping are met.
  • Good timekeeping and a can-do work ethic.

Desirables:

  • Apprentice trained.
  • Offline programming experience would be beneficial.

Required Experience:

  • CNC Lathe: 1 year

Rate of Pay

The hourly rate for the position will be tailored to the experience of the applicants. Overtime is paid at a time and a half and wage payments are fortnightly.

Hours of Work

This is a full time position of 40 hours per week which offers job security for many years to come; this can be worked over a 4 day period.

Further Information

Although specific experience in the lighting industry is not required, some electrical and/or mechanical experience would be an advantage. You should be proficient in the Microsoft Work and Microsoft Excel. A working knowledge of AutoCAD LT and Solidworks would also be beneficial, however training in this will be provided to the right individual.

We welcome applicants out with the local area. For these applicants shared accommodation during employment may be available. Travelling distance from Morpeth to Coldstream is 45 mins to 1 hour. This is the same from south Edinburgh.

UFO can travel to meet candidates for interviews.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Polishing & Finishing Operative to join our busy team at Universal Fibre Optics.

UFO is a privately owned lighting manufacturer based in Coldstream, Scotland. Since our establishment in 1991 we have specialised in complete fibre optic lighting systems for the architectural, commercial, conservation, sensory and residential sectors.

All of our products are designed, engineered and assembled in-house at our 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility.

Tasks of a Finishing & Polishing Operative Include:

  • Completing grinding and polishing to a high standard.
  • Prioritising orders in relation to urgency.
  • Responsible for completion of manufacture in time specified; working overtime where necessary.
  • Ensuring the product is of good quality, highlighting any problems, finding solutions.
  • Stock Control.
  • Maintaining Company and Operational Standards.
  • Comply with Company Health and Safety policy.

To be considered you will need:

  • To be organised and have good attention to detail.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Work well on your own but also be able to contribute to team effort.
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and take ownership of tasks assigned.
  • Have a good level of fitness.
  • A willingness to work on a flexible basis.
