Royal Observatory
Universal Fibre Optics were contracted to provide lighting to these historic timepieces.
The collection at The Royal Observatory, Greenwich, contains many important, historic and valuable timepieces and navigational instruments.
Fibre optics provide an ideal means of safely and efficiently lighting these precious and irreplacable items. The use of UFO Aurora lightsources, with integral dimmer units allows the light level in each area to be controlled.
The lighting for this exhibit was designed by Surrey based lighting designers, David Atkinson Lighting Design. With thanks to he National Maritime Museum for permission to reproduce the images shown.
Equipment Used:
In the narrow cases, located behind the information board pelmets, 2mm end-lit glass fibre feeding 19mm diameter light wands are used (these are available in a number of diameters to suit individual applications).
Custom coloured UFO 14DB fittings, interspersed with 2mm fibre ends, for a general wash of light are located in the larger cases.
