Westminster Abbey

Universal Fibre Optics, working in conjunction with Plowden & Smith, who are experts in exhibition installations, installed over 250 UFO 9D fittings to display cabinets in Westminster Abbey Museum.

This project needed to be completed without removing the exhibits from their display cases. Plowden & Smith were responsible for protecting the internal artefacts with plinths and installing new information boards, whilst UFO removed the tops from the cabinets and installed the fibre optics into them.

With the project requiring very quick completion, UFO’s installation team were on site for only three and a half days from start to finish.

Westminster Abbey Museum houses many important historical artefacts and is home to a unique collection of royal and other funeral effigies. Items illuminated by UFO fittings include the saddle, sword, helm and shield of Henry V, The armour of General Monck (the founder of Coldstream) and Queen Mary II’s coronation chair.

The museum is also host to clothes of some important historical persons, including Charles II, Lord Nelson and Frances, Duchess of Richmond & Lennox.
