Universal Fibre Optics are one of the few manufacturers of glass fibre for lighting in the world. We also make polymer products and are the official distributor for Mitsubishi polymer lighting fibre in the UK.

The majority of the products here are designed and manufactured in our facility in the UK using the latest technology to ensure quality and performance. We have one of the widest ranges of light sources and end fittings in the world.

Most of our products are supplied as complete systems though we can also supply individual items and reels of fibre to installers and manufacturers.

Unlimited Light DIY Kits

Unlimited Light manufactures fibre optic lighting kits for unlimited applications. With their easy colourchange properties the kits promote relaxation as bathroom lighting or bedroom lighting. The absence of electricity in the cable and end fittings ensures safety in wet or humid environments.

Furthermore, the absence of heat in the end fittings make them safe to touch or walk on and allows them to be positioned in or beside potentially inflammable materials where lighting would not otherwise be possible.

The safety aspects of fibre optic lighting together with the colourchange and twinkle effects makes it especially exciting for children whether it is installed in their bedroom or placed on the floor to play with.

End fittings

While discreet and aesthetically pleasing, many fittings offer the added benefit of flexibility with the focusing and directing of the light emitted from the ends of the tails.

Although not always necessary, the end fittings allow for the tails to be easily installed in the chosen location/material, e.g. wood, plaster board, decking.

Light Sources

Light sources provide the light which is to be transmitted down the fibres. They typically contain a lamp with reflector, starter gear or transformer, and a fan along with optional effects such as colour change or twinkle wheel and control systems.

All Fans fitted to our light sources are of a quiet type and we can supply EPDM mats if they are being sat on a resonant surface. Glass type light sources provide slightly more light than the type for polymer fibre, but are only suitable for use with glass fibre as they could damage polymer fibre. Polymer type light sources can be used with either fibre type. The two main types of light source offered by Universal Fibre Optics are Metal Halide and Halogen and we also offer a range of accessories to enhance and protect the light source.

Fibre Optic Harnesses

Harnesses comprise one or more tails (or cables) of fibre optics which transmit the light from the light source (projector) over a distance.

They are joined together in a connector (common end) and are normally separate at the other. Harnesses may be terminated at the loose end depending on the type of fibre used.

Polymer Fibre

We can supply polymer fibre on rolls to manufacturers and installers. We have unsheathed and sheathed single fibres and sheathed bundles of 0.75mm fibre, normally in stock.

We can also make runs of special bundles to your specification. The normal sheathing material is low smoke halogen free.

Cabinet and Display

Universal Fibre Optics have one of the widest range of specialist fibre optic lighting solutions for museums, galleries and retail displays.

Low UV and heat emission from the end of the fibres means that sensitive items are not degraded as they could be with conventional types of lighting.

A single lightsource can provide many points of light and can be located in an accessible position, whilst the end fittings can be inside a case or at a height where frequent re-lamping would be problematic.

The reduced number of lamps required means lower maintenance costs and lower energy consumption.

Star Effects

One of the main features of fibre optic lighting is its ability to light a number of points from one light source.

One of the best demonstrations of this is shown in star effect ceilings and floors.

Extremely difficult to achieve with conventional lighting methods, fibre optics make it easy to implement this stunning feature in almost any location, indoors or out.
