Melrose Town Centre
The town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders is well known for its Abbey and annual rugby sevens. As part of a redevelopment of the town centre and the introduction of a new traffic flow system, the historic market square has been partly pedestrianised.
The steps are lit on the risers with marker lines of light. These lines are made from 15.8mm diameter stranded sideglow fibres which are resined into 1" U-section metal channel. The sections were made in the factory by Universal Fibre Optics.
A total of five UFO Compact 150W light sources supply light to the entire area. The light sources are housed in vented weatherproof enclosures which were built into the walls of the terrace area by the council. These enclosures have lockable doors to allow access to change lamps when necessary while the Compact light source has an easy change re-lamping feature.
