Harvey Nichols Restaurant, London

Harvey Nichols requested that the walls of their restaurant change colour to enhance the mood of the room. Conventional vertically mounted strip lights were considered but rejected as the light they emit would be too consistent. Heat generated by the lights and maintenance were also deciding factors.

Equation Lighting Design, working in conjunction with Universal Fibre Optics, achieved the stunning solution illustrated in the photographs on this page by employing special acrylic rods with a clear acrylic outer tube, mounted vertically to the walls with specially made brackets.

Each rod houses a fibre optic tail with light shining directly from the top of the tube. A total of 18 lightsources fitted with colourwheels were used to achieve a subtle colourchange effect.

The complete lighting system, including rods and mounting brackets was supplied by Universal Fibre Optics.
