Tucked behind the hustle and bustle of Shandwick Place and just a few minutes' walk from Princes Street is Edinburgh's West End. With its long rows of wide cobbled streets and stunning Georgian townhouses dating back to 1720, the area is one of great architectural beauty.
The affluent area houses a number of boutique shops and restaurants, and many of Scotland's leading businesses and financial institutions including the prestigious commercial building that features in this project.
Working with our sister company, Unlimited Light, we were appointed to design and construct a one-of-a-kind fibre optic chandelier that would fill the vast space in the main staircase of the recently refurbished serviced commercial premises.
Given the grandeur and sheer space available, we decided to create an enormous eye-catching installation that contrasts perfectly with the historic block. Measuring a staggering 15 metres in length, the colour changing chandelier is one of the largest that we have constructed to date.
The unique feature's stainless steel base is securely suspended on a horizontal pole inside the glass atrium at the top of the building's stairwell. Cleverly concealed within the pole are the fibre optic tails that lead back to the light source.
The 150w metal halide light source that powers the chandelier is mounted on a wall several metres away, providing the building's maintenance staff with easy access to the one and only lamp that powers the large cascading feature.
