UFO Engineering Services - CNC Turning & Milling

cnc 1

UFO Engineering's CNC turning capabilities are second to none due to the large investment we have made in state of the art computer numerically controlled machine tools and CAM software, all set, programmed and operated by skilled engineering staff.

On our Swiss type CNC automatics we can manufacture straight turned components or more intricate geometrical shapes by utilising driven tooling integral to the lathe.

Due to the nature of these machines they can rapidly turn, mill, drill, tap and bore a component from both sides, negating the use of a second operation machining or set up. This results in short lead times and keeps part costs down while delivering repeatable accuracy measured in micro metres rather than millimetres over the whole batch run.

We also manufacture a great many larger components on our slant bed CNC lathes. These have the capability to produce larger components of increasingly complex design as they too have driven tool capability allowing drilled, milled and tapped operations of the conventional planes normally associated with CNC turning. This is coupled with lights out capability that allows the machine tool to complete the batch unmanned and still keep the components within tolerance and on time.

Four other area of CNC expertise is in milling and drilling. Our high speed machining centres are linked to CAM software via a direct numerical control link which means the most complex components can be programmed and up and running within a few hours of receipt of your CAD drawing. CAD drawings help speed up the turnaround but are not essential as our drawing office can create the necessary files from customer drawings and by liasing directly with the customers technical contacts. What we can offer clients is the whole package from the design phase to the manufactured component.

Our main areas of work have been producing specialist lighting and optical equipment components for use in areas such as the aerospace, defence, automotive and medical markets. We have experience in CNC machining metals such as aluminium, brass, stainless steel and bronze. We have also CNC machined a number of engineering plastics including acrylic, nylon 66, acetal and PET.
